Horns
up front.
The Magnetones are an instrumental band built from scratch in Philadelphia by musicians who came up through the city’s indie rock and neo-soul scenes.
The band’s own songs are instrumental. They move between trumpet, trombone, guitar, keys, bass, drums and percussion, and the influences range as widely as the horn section can carry them.
The sound shifts from psychedelic funk with a retro video-game glint, to Steely Dan-inflected melodic turns, to West African grooves filtered through Ghana, Austin and Louisiana, to a New Orleans second-line strut, to a Motown and Stax homage built around trading horn solos.
The self-titled debut album arrives November 6, 2026. It was tracked at Jamtown in Philadelphia with bassist and co-producer Chris Baglivo.
