Tomorrow's Sound
The Magnetones are an instrumental group built from scratch in Philadelphia by musicians who came up through the city's indie rock and neo-soul scenes. The band's own songs are instrumental, moving between trumpet, trombone, guitar, keys, bass, drums, and percussion. The influences range as widely as the horn section can carry them.
The band's sound shifts from psychedelic funk with a retro video-game glint, to Steely Dan-inflected melodic turns, to West African grooves filtered through Ghana, Austin, and Louisiana, to a New Orleans second-line strut, to a Motown & Stax homage built around trading horn solos.
The self-titled debut album arrives November 6, 2026, preceded by a run of singles — Sonic, Effia, and Something About It — each pulling from a different corner of the record collection. It was tracked at Jamtown in Philadelphia with bassist and co-producer Chris Baglivo.
